Business Designer, Central London / Remote – Up to £55k DOE plus benefits

This leading global tech company are a household name across consumer and business electronics. They’re looking for a new Business Designer to join their team.

The key focus of the Business Designer will be to help deliver business context into every stage of the project (be it designing a new product, service, platform, or business ecosystem) as well as simultaneously helping design broader business strategy and roadmaps for execution.

Business Designers work at the intersection of strategy and design to drive competitive advantage and strategic innovation, whilst constantly being connected to the consumer experience and insights underpinning the user value. As a Business Designer, you will work within a team with a broad set of user centred design skills to bring a variety of concepts, experiences, and solutions to life and into the market.

The responsibility of the Business Designer within the team is:

-       Participate in innovation projects from start to finish, alongside members of the I&I team, including working with external partners

-       Help co-create profitable new consumer experiences, products, services, platforms, or business ecosystems

-       Help develop the strategy, business model, and system that underpins a new idea

-       Identify and help develop a go-to-market roadmap for a new solution

-       Work with other members of I&I throughout the innovation process to develop user centred concepts, driven by functional value proposition

-       Develop techniques to test new insight and concept output from the Innovation process in as ‘real world’ a way as possible in order to create compelling business cases

-       Become the business champion within the innovation process ensuring the revenue opportunity is considered in each stage of development

-       To bring specialisms of strategy and business model knowledge to bear on their colleague’s projects, whilst effectively engaging the other team member’s capabilities (i.e. design research, industrial design, interaction design, communication design, strategy)

-       To support the team in the proposing, winning, and managing of Innovation projects

Candidates do not need to be from the electronics industry but should have experience in business model creation within a design or product development process, be used to turning consumer insight into tangible propositions, and building frameworks for framing propositions with a strategic mind-set.

Key deliverables for this Business Designer:
 

-       Bring a solid business mind-set to the design, and analysis of findings from qualitative and quantitative research, by understanding competitive landscapes, market trends, consumer trends and needs to formulate market driven consumer insights.

-       Illuminate the business realities in bringing to market the propositions developed by the team/ business. You will work with I&I team members and partner agencies for these functions.

-       Designing a profitable new consumer experience, product, service, platform, or business ecosystem

-       Developing the strategy, business model, and system that underpins a new offer or venture

-       Identifying and developing a go-to-market roadmap for a new solution

-       Creating organisational structures, capabilities, and operating models to help drive innovation

-       Designing, running, and measuring experiments that gather feedback to inspire and improve new concepts

-       Storytelling, translating numbers into narratives, completing business cases for strategic buy-in, and road-mapping steps for further development.

-       Support with delivery of new innovative concepts (digital and physical) into business units. Concepts will be built on strong consumer insight, have clear trend indicators and be rooted in commercial and engineering reality

-       Take an active role in I&I non-project activities and help to raise the perception and profile of the team within the company

To be successful, this Business Designer will possess the following skills and attributes:
 

-       Experience working full-time in the business design field

-       Understanding in business first and foremost and some understanding of design, rather than depth in design and some understanding of business

-       Educated to degree level or equivalent (discipline is not important, although an MBA, or Masters in Business, Statistics, Marketing, or related field is preferred)

-       Must be able to demonstrate experience of working with market and business data in relation to new product (or service) development

-       Systems thinking and interest in bringing ideas to market (creating new solutions, launching new products, etc.)

-       Business acumen; knowledge or exposure to strategy, marketing, finance, operations, product development, etc.

-       Ability to build and interpret financial models and business cases to quantify business impact

-       Must be highly creative, innovative and design/consumer minded

-       Must have good presentation skills

-       Should be comfortable dealing with ambiguity and last minute changes

-       Must be flexible to travel
